Mark
14:12-16 |
"Now on the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they
*killed (sacrificed) the Passover lamb, His disciples said to Him. 'Where do
You want us to go and prepare, that You may eat the Passover?' So He sent out
two of His disciples and said to them, 'Go into the city, and a man will
meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him. And wherever he goes in, say
to the master of the house, "The Teacher says, 'Where is the guest room in
which I may eat the Passover with My disciples?' " Then he will show you a
large upper room, furnished and prepared; there make ready for us.'
And His disciples went out, and came into the city, and found it just
as He had said to them; and they prepared the Passover." |

| The Upper
Room floor is the original floor. We learned unleavened bread is not like
the bread you see in Leonardo daVinci's painting. It's flat, like concrete. The
man carrying a pitcher was a sign. Women carried the water. He was of the
Yacines, a sect that was celibate. The room was a guest room for their Jewish
guests.

"When Jesus had said these things, He was troubled in
spirit, and testified and said, 'Most assuredly, I say to you, one of you
will betray Me.' Then the disciples looked at one another perplexed
about whom He spoke. Now there was *leaning (reclining) on Jesus' bosom one of
His disciples, whom Jesus loved. Simon Peter therefore motioned to him to ask
who it was of whom He spoke. Then, leaning back on Jesus' breast, he said to
Him, 'Lord, who is it?' Jesus answered, 'It is he to whom I shall give a
piece of bread when I have dipped it.' And having dipped the bread, He
gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon. Now after the piece of bread,
Satan entered him. Then Jesus said to him, 'What you do, do quickly.'
But no one at the table knew for what reason He said this to him."

The tables were low to the ground, and they leaned or
reclined on large pillows. There is a custom in Israel that the first morsel of
bread was given to the most honored guest. Such love in the face of betrayal.
The disciples did not know what he was about to do. Only Jesus did. |
