A Call To Disciple

Mic. 6:8 "He has shown you, O man, what is
    good;
And what does the Lord require of you
But to do justly,
To love *mercy, (Or lovingkindness)
And to walk humbly with your God?"
Matt. 5:16

"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven."

Mark 8:27-33 "Now Jesus and His disciples went out to the towns of Caesarea Philippi; and on the road He asked His disciples, saying to them, 'Who do men say that I am?' And they answered, 'John the Baptist; but some say, Elijah; and others, one of the prophets.' He said to them, 'But who do you say that I am?' And Peter answered and said to Him, 'You are the Christ.' Then He charged them that they should tell no one about Him. And He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. He spoke this word openly. And Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him. But when He had turned around and looked at His disciples, He rebuked Peter, saying, 'Get behind Me, Satan! For you are not *mindful (setting your mind on) of the things of God, but the things of men.' "
Bible Note: Peter showed respect for Jesus when he took Him aside to rebuke Him so as not to embarrass Him. But Jesus turned to look at His disciples, thus engaging them, when He rebuked Peter to teach them all. It's interesting that Peter was not offended at the rebuke as he knew the Lord was speaking to the enemy working through him.
Mark 8:34-38 "And when He had called the people to Him, with His disciples also, He said to them, 'Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel's will save it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.' "
Bible Note: Jesus seizes the moment to teach those who were there that all must come to Him willingly, surrender ourselves completely, and die to our selfish desires. We must also forgive others as many times as necessary, and be obedient to God's call to be disciples. And how is that done?
2 Cor. 4:1-7 Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we do not lose heart. But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God should shine on them. For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake. For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us."
