All About Wisdom

1 Kin. 3:5-14 "At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, 'Ask! What shall I give you?' And Solomon said: 'You have shown great mercy to your servant David my father, because he walked before you in truth, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with You; You have continued this great kindness for him, and You have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day. Now, O Lord my God, You have made Your servant king instead of my father David, but I am a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in. And Your servant is in the midst of Your people whom You have chosen, a great people, too numerous to be numbered or counted. Therefore give to Your servant an *understanding (Lit. hearing) heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?' And the speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing. Then God said to him: 'Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked long life for yourself, nor have asked riches for yourself, nor have asked the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice, behold, I have done according to your words; see, I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has not been anyone like you before you, nor shall any like you arise after you. And I have also given you what you have not asked: both riches and honor, so that there shall not be anyone like you among the kings all your days. So if you walk in My ways, to keep My statutes and My commandments, as your father David walked, then I will *lengthen (prolong) your days.' "
Job 32:6-10 "So Elihu, the son of Barachel the Buzite, answered and said:

'I am young in years, and you are very
   old;
Therefore I was afraid,
And dared not declare my opinion to
   you.
I said, "*Age (Lit. Days, years) should
   speak,
And multitude of years should teach
   wisdom."
But there is a spirit in man,
And the breath of the Almighty gives
   him understanding.
*Great men (Or Men of many years) are not
   always wise,
Nor do the aged always understand
   justice.
Therefore I say, "Listen to me,
I also will declare my opinion." ' "
BibleNote: Jobs three friends, Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar had to bring offerings to Job for him to pray for them lest God would punish them for their folly, but Elihu had spoken righteously, and was not rebuked. When Job prayed for his friends he was restored back double of what he had lost.      (Job 42:7-10)
Psa. 111:10 "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of
   wisdom;
A good understanding have all those
   who do His commandments.
His praise endures forever."
Jer. 1:6-8 "Then said I:

'Ah, Lord God!
Behold, I cannot speak, for I am a
   youth.'

But the Lord said to me:

'Do not say, "I am a youth,"
For you shall go to all to whom I send
   you,
And whatever I command you, you
   shall speak.
Do not be afraid of their faces,
For I am with you to deliver you,' says
   the Lord."
Jer. 51:15-16 "He has made the earth by His power;
He has established the world by His
   wisdom,
And stretched out the heaven by His
   understanding.
When He utters His voice -
There is a multitude of waters in the
   heavens
He causes the vapors to ascend from
   the ends of the earth;
He makes lightnings for the rain;
He brings the wind out of His
   treasuries."
Titus 1:4-5 "To Titus, my true son in our common faith:

Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior.

For this reason I left you in Crete, that you should set in order the things that are lacking, and appoint elders in every city as I commanded you."
BibleNote : I believe this book was written for the sake of the older Christians in Crete who may have been unwilling to accept youthful Titus as an authority over them. It confirmed the guidelines they should follow. Titus knew what he was sent there for, and was well able to perform his duties.
Jas. 1:5 "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him."
BibleNote: It is clear to me that God puts no age limit on wisdom. He exhorts us to ask Him for it and He will give it.
