Believers Can Be Oppressed

Matt. 13:57-58 "So they were offended at Him. But Jesus said to them, 'A profit is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house.' And He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief."
Luke 13:10-17 "Now He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. And behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bent over and could in no way *raise herself up. (straighten up) But when Jesus saw her, He called her to Him and said to her, 'Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity.' And He laid His hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God. But the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath; and he said to the crowd, 'There are six days on which men ought to work; therefore come and be healed on them, and not on the Sabbath day.' The Lord then answered him and said, 'Hypocrite! Does not each one of you on the Sabbath loose his ox or his donkey from the stall, and lead it away to water it? So ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound - think of it - for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath?' And when He said these things, all His adversaries were put to shame; and all the multitude rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by Him."
BibleNote: This woman, a daughter of Abraham, obviously believed Jesus was the Son of God, or the miracle would not have happened on her behalf.
Acts 10:36-38 "The word which God sent to the *children (Lit. sons) of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ - He is Lord of all - that word you know, which was proclaimed throughout all Judea, and began from Galilee after the baptism which John preached: how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him."
Bible Note: Unbelief stopped His works, thus it is those who believed in Him who are spoken of here that are oppressed by the devil.

June 9, 1991 Bible Note: I got the beginning of the following poem on the way home, and finished it at the house. It was about the day we went fishing at Heilwood. This poem was written under the influence of Toddler, an oppressive spirit that kept me from having to deal with the rejection all around us. I used to act like a toddler, and my girls were Mommy One, and Mommy Two.

Two little girls went fishing with Dad in a local hole,
They took their hooks, their lines, and their favorite fishing poles,
Along with them went Toddler to watch, and catch a frog;
She moved her hands so quickly she caught some pollywogs!

Mommy One pulled the line, so excited, she couldn't wait,
The bobber hit Toddler's head when the fish spit out the bait;
While Moms' caught their limits to win a pack of worms
Toddler caught a crayfish that wriggled around, and squirmed.

Toddler put back God's creatures when the fishing was all done,
Then the girls went swimming, to splash, and have more fun;
Before the day was over blizards they all did eat,
The candy and the ice cream tasted cold, and oh, so sweet.

They thanked the Lord Jesus for a special, happy day,
Then off to their house they went, hearing praise songs on the way;
One more day they had spent, with Jesus by their side,
His special angels with them, His love they need not hide.

BibleNote: I'm happy to say I was sovereignly delivered from Toddler on Dec. 12, 1991. I had thrown out the poem, but when I later found another copy of it I realized I needed to keep it to prove a Christian can be oppressed by the enemy.
