Horse Notes To Ponder

Exod. 14:24-28 "Now it came to pass, in the morning watch, that the Lord looked down upon the army of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and cloud, and He *troubled (confused) the army of the Egyptians. And He took off their chariot wheels, so that they drove them with difficulty; and the Egyptians said, 'Let us flee from the face of Israel, for the Lord fights for them against the Egyptians.' Then the Lord said to Moses, 'Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the waters may come back upon the Egyptians, on their chariots, and on their horsemen.' And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and when the morning appeared, the sea returned to its full depth, while the Egyptians were fleeing into it. So the Lord overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea. Then the waters returned and covered the chariots, the horsemen, and all the army of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them. Not so much as one of them remained."
Bible Note: I believe when the Lord took off the chariot wheels he also made the bottom of the sea mud again so the horses could not get their footing to be controled in the sea.
2 Kin. 2:11 "Then it happened, as they continued on and talked, that suddenly a chariot of fire appeared with horses of fire, and separated the two of them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven."

Est. 6:8-10 "And Haman answered the king, 'For the man whom the king delights to honor, let a royal robe be brought which the king has worn, and a horse on which the king has ridden, which has a royal *crest (crown) placed on its head. Then let this robe and horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king's most noble princes, that he may array the man whom the king delights to honor. Then parade him on horseback through the city square, and proclaim before him: "Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delights to honor!" Then the king said to Haman, 'Hasten, take the robe and the horse, as you have suggested, and do so for Mordecai the Jew who sits within the king's gate. Leave nothing undone of all that you have spoken.' "
Bible Note: Haman, thinking the king wanted to honor him, made a suggestion that ended up forcing him to honor Mordecai, his enemy.
Est. 8:10 "And he wrote in the name of King Ahasuerus, sealed it with the king's signet ring, and sent letters by couriers on horseback, riding on royal horses bred from swift steeds."
Bible Note: In Biblical times the best bread horses were used to bring word from the king to his subjects throughout his land.
Job 39:19-25 "Have you given the horse strength?
Have you clothed his neck with
   *thunder (Or a mane)
Can you frighten him like a locust?
His majestic snorting strikes terror.
He paws in the valley, and rejoices in
   his strength;
He gallops into the clash of arms.
He mocks at fear, and is not frightened;
Nor does he turn back from the sword.
The quiver rattles against him,
The glittering spear and javelin.
He devours the distance with fierceness
   and rage;
Nor does he stand firm, because the
   trumpet has sounded.
At the blast of the trumpet he says,
   'Aha!'
He smells the battle from afar,
The thunder of captains and shouting."
Bible Note: I find this descripttion of a horse utterly fascinating! When God is putting Job in his place He has quite an example for him with the horse.
Psa. 32:9 "Do not be like the horse or like the
   mule,
Which have no understanding,
Which must be harnessed with bit and
   bridle,
Else they will not come near you."
Psa. 33:17 "A horse is a *vain (false) hope for safety;
Neither shall it deliver any by its great
   strength."
Jas. 3:1-3, 6 "My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment. For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a *perfect (mature) man, able also to bridle the whole body. Indeed, we put bits in horses' mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body...And the tongue is a fire, a world of *iniquity. (unrighteousness) The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of *nature; (existence) and it is set on fire by hell."

Rev. 14:20 "And the winepress was trampled outside the city, and blood came out of the winepress, up to the horses' bridles, for *one thousand six hundred furlongs." (184 miles)
Bible Note: This was a way of measuring the bodies of the slain.
Rev. 19:11-16 "Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word Of God. And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written:
    KING OF KINGS
AND LORD OF LORDS."
Bible Note: Our final passage speaks of the Lord's return as our redeemer.
