A Contentious Woman Or Man

Prov. 21:19 "It is better to dwell *in the wilderness,
(Lit. in the land of the desert)
Than with a contentious and angry
   woman."
Prov. 25:24 "It is better to dwell in a corner of a
   housetop,
Than in a house shared with a
   contentious woman."
Prov. 26:2 "Like a flitting sparrow, like a flying
   swallow,
So a curse without cause shall not
   alight."
Example: Deut. 23:5
"Nevertheless the Lord your God would not listen to Balaam, but the Lord your God turned the curse into a blessing for you, because the Lord your God loves you."
Bible Note: These people feared Israel because of their number. They tried to get the prophet of God to curse them, and He was not able to.
Prov. 26:20-22 "Where there is no wood, the fire goes
   out;
And where there is no *talebearer,
(gossip, Lit. whisperer) strife ceases.
As charcoal is to burning coals, and
   wood to fire,
So is a contentious man to kindle strife.
The words of a *talebearer (gossip) are like tasty
*trifles, (A Jewish tradition reads wounds)
And they go down into the *inmost
body. (Lit. rooms of the belly)
Bible Note: This passage shows men can also be contentious. It's the way people go "around the barn to get to the door" as a dear friend of mine used to say rather than speaking to each other directly about their problems. I once had a woman verbally attack me, and after I calmed down I asked her to forgive me for arguing. She snapped, "I don't forgive you!" To which I responded, "Then you will hold me in bondage, and yourself." She said, "I'm not in bondage." It was Prov. 26:2 that God put on my heart to help me see I would be unharmed. I sat outside until she left and then asked the owner of the store to forgive me for the interruption. She responded, "I so forgive you!"
Prov. 27:15-16 "A continual dripping on a very rainy
   day
And a contentious woman are alike;
Whoever *restrains (hides) her restrains the
   wind,
And grasps oil with his right hand."
Isa. 54:17 " 'No weapon formed against you shall
   prosper,
And every tongue which rises against
   you in judgment
You shall condemn.
This is the heritage of the servants of
   the Lord,
And their righteousness is from Me,'
Says the lord."

2 Cor. 10:3-6
"For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not *carnal (of the flesh) but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled."
